MUIR WOODS (4/9/2005)
Chris's mom was in town in early April and we took the opportunity to visit Muir Woods, which is just a few miles outside of San Francisco and a place I've been wanting to visit ever since I first considered moving here. It turned out to be better than I imagined. It's something completely out of a fairy tale. This also happened to be our anniversary (seven years!)
Bats!
Bats!
As soon as we walked into the crotch of this tree for a photo somebody walked by and said "bats sleep in there" which caused me to run out moments later.

Aw, cute!

They're so alike in so many ways. They're both quiet and thoughtful and kind of private. They also both pay religious attention to the price of gas wherever we are, and point out when we've just passed a gas station with a notable deviation from the average. This leads me to theorize that there are two kinds of people in the world: people who pay attention to the price of gas, the cost of a gallon of milk, etc., and who make decisions accordingly (e.g., I will go to that station on the other side of the street because the gas is a two cents cheaper). And then there are the people who don't. Like me. But I flatter myself to think that people like me are more common than you'd think, and people like Chris and Connie are a rare and hypervigilient breed of comparison shopper.
Connie & Me

Connie's a fun house guest because she bakes for you all day and then plays cards and drinks wine all night.
Fungus
Fungus
Can you believe that's a naturally occuring fungus? How crazy is that? It's so beautiful. They're really big too! A couple inches across at least.

This will be the closing photo if I ever need to put together a slide show or photo montage of Chris's life. The message will be something about the lone man or the road less travelled or being an individual or having bow legs.

This looks to me like a photo taken in one of those packages you get for your senior picture.

The diameter of that tree has to be at least six feet.q
