DAY AT THE BEACH (5/30/2005)
Chris and I met Susan Andy & Elam at the beach and spent a few hours strolling and chatting. I rented an apartment from them when I lived in New York, but that was a while ago, and now, in spite of one loud party and one bounced rent check and my poor correspondence habits and a few years in between, we find ourselves together in Northern California on a sunny holiday.
Admiration
Admiration
Basically Chris and I both secretly want to be like Susan and Andy. When we lived in New York we'd catsit for them sometimes when they were off traveling around the world. I had a wisdom tooth pulled once when we were catsitting, and I spent a weekend recovering on their couch. Their place was really serene and peaceful, and in fact, there's something in them that feels kind of serene and easy and assured, even now, with the excitement of a toddler.

Andy got that hat in Chile.
Bravery
Bravery
Elam is apparently a little hesitatant around water, but he really got into the whole splashing thing, and kept saying, "I'm a splasher! I'm a splash monster!"
Chasing
Chasing
Susan and Elam were playing this fun chasing game. Why do little kids love to be chased so much? They seem genuinely terrrified, but also really delighted at the same time.

Susan gives him a little time to get ahead before she goes after him.
Jumping
Jumping
Susan seems like such a fun mom. Everytime I see them she's playing really energetic, active games with Elam and he's eating them up. This picture basically says it all.
Just to Set the Scene
Just to Set the Scene
Do I not live in the most beautiful place? This is like 10 minutes from my house. It doesn't even look real.
Love
Love
They seem so genuinely delighted by their son. Don't they both look really in love?

I think he looks like a 60s surf baby.

Susan looking very long and lean (it doesn't hurt to be juxtaposed by a short and round baby, but she does just happens to be long and lean).
